Pinchbeck village sign returned to former glory

A village sign has been returned to its former glory.

The spruced up landmark which welcomes villagers and travellers to Pinchbeck is back on show after having work carried out.

Robert Browning, who repaired the village’s stocks and war memorial gates, carried out the necessary repair work to the sign, which was originally funded by the village’s WI.

Some locals had feared the sign – situated near the corner of Crossgate Lane and Surfleet Road – had been stolen, especially as Mr Browning needed to saw the base to remove the sign.

But normal service has been resumed.

“I asked Rob to do it based on the works he did with the stocks and memorial gates,” said Coun James Avery, chairman of Pinchbeck Parish Council.

“I think once people got over the initial shock that it had disappeared – thinking that it had been stolen – then I think they realised it was in safe hands and, once erected, it would look as good as it does now.”
