Visitors flock to see beautiful snowdrops at churches in Whaplode and West Pinchbeck
Volunteers enjoyed a ‘record weekend’ as visitors flocked to see beautiful snowdrops – despite the wet and windy weather.
As the winter season comes to an end, snowdrops are now in bloom at Whaplode St Mary’s Church and St Bartholomew’s Church in West Pinchbeck.
Both of the churches were able to raise money which will go towards general upkeep for the sites with events at the weekend.
Geoff Hoare, who is one of the volunteers at Whaplode St Mary’s Church and frequently visits the site with his wife to maintain the snowdrops and surrounding paths, said: “We had loads of visitors – it was a record weekend for us.
“It was pretty grim weather but the snowdrops are starting to look really good. All of the money we have had through donations will go towards the church roof repairs.”
Whaplode St Mary’s Church will be open again for its snowdrop walk on Saturday, 15 Sunday, 16, Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 February between 10am and 3pm.
There will be hot and cold refreshments available in the church.
St Bartholomew’s church warden Wendy Houghton said: “We had lots of visitors and raised around £450 for the church – not bad for a cold and damp February weekend.
“It was good to see familiar faces and new support and it’s always good to have the church.
“We had a good response from the people who came and everyone had a good chat and catch-up with people.”
The next big fundraising event for St Bartholomew’s Church in West Pinchbeck will be the Festival of Flowers. It will take place between Wednesday, April 30 and Monday, May 3.
