Visitors learn more about daffodils at Spalding flower show
Visitors enjoyed learning about the many different varieties of daffodils during a flower show at the weekend.
Springfield Horticultural Society organised its annual daffodil and spring flower show which attracted more than 180 entries.
The event, which was held at Springfields in Spalding, proved popular with visitors.
Head Gardener Andy Boyton said: “The Annual Spring Flower Show attracted many visitors over the two days to a display of Narcissus exhibited by local bulb enthusiasts.
“There were over 180 entries of very high-quality blooms and an array of foliage, potted bulbs, and flowering plants. The Holbeach Horticultural Society entered their pots of Narcissus ‘Geranium’ which were from their own competition for judging and display over the weekend.
“People were very complementary about the show and were surprised to learn that there are so many varieties of Daffodils. Hopefully, the visitors have learnt something about the different daffodils and the varieties available to them.”
Society chairman Adrien Jansen was delighted with the show’s success.
He said: “Beautiful spring weather brought out visitors and exhibitors alike, and The Spring Flower Show has been a great success.
“Our competition classes were well supported with over 180 individual entries, including a number of entries into our novice classes from new exhibitors.
“The standard was exceptionally high and visitors were delighted to see more than 150 different varieties of daffodil on display.
“After three weeks of warm, dry weather, there was a fear that daffodils might be past their best, but gardeners always find a way of producing champion blooms on the day!
“We are very pleased with a successful show, and we will soon start planning the 2026 show which will be the 60th birthday of Springfields Horticultural Society.”
