Volunteers needed for Spalding Flower Parade tulip picking and pinning
Huge teams of volunteers are needed to complete the final piece of the Spalding Flower Parade puzzle.
Groups of helpers are needed to get their hands dirty picking tulip heads and then later pinning them onto the floats ahead of the event on Saturday, May 13.
Parade organiser Stephen Timewell says he needs as many people as possible to give their time.
“This really is the last big push,” he said.
“It’s the biggest task of all really but it will be worth it.
“I’ll need people to help with picking and then the pinning, but they can do as much or little time as they want.
“People can come and do an hour or two, or stay all day, it’s completely up to them.
“We’ve also got some of the Brownies and a couple of the schools coming to help us which is great.”
Pickers will need to meet Steve in Terrington St Clements where acres of tulips are being grown. Picking will take place from Monday, May 8 to Wednesday, May 10.
Once picked, the pinning will begin at R. Chappell & Sons on Cowbit Road in Spalding. Those who are volunteering to help will need to be available between Wednesday, May 10 and Friday, May 12.
“I really need people to get involved and help,” Steve said.
“We don’t want a half naked dragon going around Spalding.
“Please don’t let me down now.”
More details will be available on the Spalding Flower Parade Facebook page over the coming days.
l Steve is also still looking for the last few marshals to give up an hour or so of their time on parade day.
Each marshal will need to complete an online course, which takes about 45 minutes, and then will go on to man one of the 52 road closures in place.
If you would like to volunteer to be a marshal, contact Steve by calling 07516 902673 or by emailing info@spaldingflowerparade.org.uk
