Pippa’s Pantry owner in Sutton Bridge welcomes women to come for cake, cuppa and chat about the menopause
A café owner is holding an evening for women to come and chat about the menopause.
Pippa Jones, who owns Pippa’s Pantry in Sutton Bridge, has suggested a get-together for ladies to have a cuppa and cake to talk all things menopausal.
The event will be held on Wednesday, October 10- close to World Menopause Day - and was advertised on the cafe’s Facebook page.
Pippa said: “People have messaged me about it and have said that this is absolutely their bag.
“So I will be opening the pantry so that we can have a chat among ourselves.
“There's no better information than talking together - although we are going to be swearing so if that offends you don't come.”
At the age of 56, Pippa has reached menopause herself and takes HRT patches prescribed by her doctor.
But she has noticed that at this time of her life menopause has impacted her mood and sleep.
She said: “In our workplace my team are all women and of that age.
“So I think that I will happily say when I am asked how are you: “You know what, I've been up all night, sweating like a hog and I am going to kill my husband this morning, but otherwise I am fine.
“My sleep is affected.
“I wake up at 3am every morning and by 4am I am knackered.
“I have to get up at 6am for the pantry so it is a vicious cycle.”
The post that she put up read “I’m no expert on the menopause but do you all want an evening in the pantry to chat, catch up over a coffee and offload” and has had more than 100 comments.
It will be a casual coffee and cake chat rather than being in a clinical environment.
Pippa, who has run the business for five years, added: “Even though we go to the doctors, by chatting there might be some advice that works well for you.
“Ideas to help with sleep and to talk openly.
“Women need to discuss it.”
Zeph Churchill, from Spalding, is a licensed Menopause Champion and member of the British Menopause Society and had a long career as a nurse.
She has used her performed her sell out show Is It Me Or Is It Hot In Here at the South Holland Centre and has encouraged the evening at Pippa’s Pantry.
Zeph said: “It is brilliant because it is getting women to think about the menopause and normalises it.
“It breaks down taboos which is what I do in my show.”
All are welcome to come along to Pippa’s Pantry in Sutton Bridge from 6.30pm on Wednesday, October 10.
