Fleet Hargate car show and craft fair helps Holbeach woman raise cash for Ovacome charity in memory of mum
A car show and craft fair helped to raised hundreds of pounds for a good cause.
Trish and Glen Elding, who run Old Skool Cruzers car club, were delighted with the turn-out to the event at the Anglia Motel in Fleet Hargate over the weekend.
The event raised £560 for the Ovacome charity, which provides support and information on ovarian cancer.
This is a charity close to the heart of Mrs Elding after losing her mum Janet Shaw, of Spalding, to the condition.
Each year 7,000 people in the UK are affected by ovarian cancer - and it commonly appears in women over the age of 45.
Symptoms include: abdomen bloating, difficulty eating and feeling full quickly; abdominal and pelvic pain along with changes in urination or bowel habit.
Mrs Elding, who lives in Holbeach, said: “Mum was diagnosed in 2016 and passed away in 2021.
“She was told it was irritable bowel syndrome and it was stage three by the time they did anything.
“I am pleased with the amount raised and have been supporting the charity since mum was diagnosed.
“We want to save other families from going through something similar.
“Usually by the time someone has symptoms, it has already spread. Thankfully now everyone is picking up on it better.
“This charity has been set up to raise awareness of the condition. They send out materials which have the symptoms on."
Up to 200 cars supported the event on Saturday.
These included an American Hot Rod, a 1951 cruiser and two hearses.
Kelly and Simon Smith, from Long Sutton, had converted a hearse into a camper.
Crafters also went along to support the event with a host of stalls selling jewellery, resin items and knitting.
Mrs Elding said: “We are delighted with the response and would like to thank all those who supported us.”
