WEEKEND WEB: Make a cute ‘book hedgehog’

MAKE IT YOURSELF: Staff from Flowers N Things of Spalding demonstrate some simple crafts we can all try.

Bookfolding is a really easy papercraft through which you can easily produce some fantastic pieces to decorate your home or gift to friends and family.

There are hundreds of different patterns around, but we think that a paper hedgehog is by far the cutest thing you can create!

All you need to get going is an old book, some PVA glue, two button eyes and something to weigh the paper down as you work.

Firstly you need to position the book so one page is above the other, rather than next to it. You’ll be turning each page up, and folding in towards the centre of the book.

Pop your paperweight on the pages closest to you to keep them out of the way. Starting with the first paper page (rather than the cover), fold the top left-hand corner in towards the middle of the page.

Try to tuck it right down into the centre joint, and make sure the folded edge on the left is pressed down nice and tightly. This fold will create the hedgehog’s adorable little face.

Then make a second fold, turning the top edge of the page down around one inch. This fold will create the spines of the hedgehog. Repeat these two folds on each consecutive page as you move through the book until you’re hedgehog is looking suitably plump.

Finally, you need to carefully remove the cover of the book, and add some eyes!
