Spalding family question police progress on Hall Place dog attack two months after incident happened
The family of a pensioner whose beloved pet was injured in a town centre dog attack have questioned the progress of a police investigation two months after the devastating incident.
Queenie Beecham, 75, was walking Jack Russell cross Daisy through Spalding’s Hall Place when she was attacked by a large brown dog at around 11am on May 18, outside Boots.
The five-year-old dog had to undergo surgery for a puncture wound to her neck as a result of the incident which saw a number of people rally around to support her traumatised owner.
But more than two months after the attack, police say they are ‘continuing to investigate the incident’.
Queenie’s daughter Alison is frustrated by the lack of progress and says the handling of the investigation has not been a surprise.
Alison, who has also expressed concern about the welfare other dog involved in the incident, said: “One officer visited mum several days after the incident. I think he probably did all he could once he was put on the case, but prior to this, missed opportunities and the left hand not knowing what the right hand was doing, it was all to little too late.
“The way this has been handled by the police, I am sorry to say has not surprised me. I think it fair to say, and I would be supported by many when I question what are the police actually doing to keep decent members of the public safe. “
Alison says the attack has had an impact on her mum.
She said “My mum and Daisy thankfully don't have any lasting physical problems however Mum did say a couple of weeks ago she drove past a very large dog on a chain lead. The dog was perfectly under control but for a split second she panicked and questioned herself as to what she would do if she had of been walking Daisy.
“A thought that would never have crossed her mind before the attack. She now also carries a "pet correction" aerosol in the hope that it might offer some protection - after all the the police aren't going to.”
We approached Lincolnshire Police for a comment.
They said investigations are continuing and that there is no fixed timescale on how long these things can take.
