Surfleet's Glen Park children's play area remains closed nearly a year on
A once well-used children's play park is still closed - nine months after it suddenly shut.
The play area at Glen Park, in Surfleet, was closed in May last year due to safety concerns.
While the exact reason it remains closed is unclear - it may be due to funding issues for repairs.
Glen Park is owned by Surfleet Play and Recreation Charity (SPARC).
We asked SPARC for more information on why the park is still closed nearly a year on but the spokesperson just reiterated that the situation remained unchanged from last year.
Last May, we were told by the spokesperson: "Our policy is that when we identify a problem with any of the equipment which could pose a safety risk - in this case the climbing ropes on the Everest Tower - we take the precaution of closing the play area for obvious reasons.
"We fully understand the frustrations of being denied access to what is a very popular and probably the most heavily-used play facility in the area - the park has a visitor throughput of approximately 40,000 a year - but we have found it impossible to isolate any item requiring attention."
Chairman for Surfleet Parish Council, Glynn Waltham, said: "We have had no communication whatsoever from SPARC to tell us what is going on with the park."
However, the Friends of Glen Park posted on its Facebook page last summer: 'Glen Park children’s play area is closed until further notice, awaiting repairs. Unfortunately, the money to pay for them - around £3,000 – still needs to be raised.'
It also posted: 'SPARC has raised over £1.7m to build Glen Park, entirely voluntarily, since 2002.'
