Whaplode widower recalls late wife’s chance meeting in loo with Rolling Stones front man Mick Jagger as he reflects on her wit and personality

A widower recalled the moment his late wife met a legendary rock star by chance in a loo at a party — and paid tribute to her ‘incredible personality’.

Georgina Charles Hearn, known as Georgie, lived in Whaplode with husband Cyril Hearn and recently died at the age of 86 in HolbeachHospital.

Cyril fondly remembers Georgie’s sense of humour after 47 years of marriage — and recounts the moment when she met the front man of the Rolling Stones in a toilet as one episode that will always raise a smile.

He said: “She lived in a London flat with other ladies and they had parties.

“She was on the loo and bursting through the door came Mick Jagger.

“He said ‘sorry love’!“

Georgie, originally from Hertfordshire, first met Cyril in Liverpool where they were married in a register office.

They moved to Lincolnshire once her mother — who had lived with them — had died and stayed in Whaplode.

Georgie’s failing health meant she had a number of stays in Holbeach Hospital.

Cyril said: “Georgie became ill about four years ago and lost weight in a matter of months.

“She had been to the hospice a few times for respite care and looked after.

“It is a lovely place.”

Georgie, born in 1938, had a daughter Ginny from a previous marriage and Cyril has three children Tracey, Neil, and Marney. She died on Tuesday, April 15.

Cyril, 86, said: “She had an incredible personality.

“She always made me laugh and she was the kind of person whose humour was instinctive

“Her humour came straight out and she always had a punchline.”

Georgie worked at the Bank of England in London’s Threadneedle Street and also as a secretary for the BBC.

She ended her career as a civil servant but was also a keen writer.

Cyril said: “She wrote stories galore.

“Some of the stories she wrote were incredible.

“She sent them off to companies as you do as a potential writer.”

Georgie helped Cyril pen and publish a book about Whaplode St Mary’s church which will be celebrating 900 years this year.

The couple’s love of travel saw them sail and fly around the world four times, visiting New Zealand, Japan and China and many more countries.

Cyril said: “We did a lot of cruises in later years.

“She had an incredible life.

“Last year she had her 50th year of sobriety.”

Their lifetime together has been based on shared values, laughter and Cyril explains the secret to their long marriage.

He said: “Her tolerance, capacity for understanding and genuine love.

“She was dependable, sincere and good at helping me understand better English.

“She was wonderful - such a kind lady.”
