Will ‘borderline case’ speed limit be reduced at Shepeau Stow?

Calls to reduce the speed limit on a country road will be considered next week.

Lincolnshire County Council’s planning and regulation committee will discuss requests by residents to make the 40mph zone at Drove Road, Shepeau Stow, a 30mph area on Monday.

However, the location is labelled a ‘borderline case’.

“Following a request from residents for a review of the 40mph speed limit at the above location a speed survey has been carried out to confirm if a reduction in the level of limit can be justified against the speed limit policy,” the officer’s report read.

The mean speed on the B1166 at the location has been measured at 35mph.

“Under the normal criteria set out in the council's speed limit policy this location would not be considered eligible for a reduction in speed limit,” the report concluded.

“As a borderline case however the planning and regulation committee may use its discretion to approve a departure from the criteria where appropriate.”
