Winners announced for Spalding Flower Parade shop window competition
Businesses pulled out all of the stops to ensure they were part of the Spalding Flower Parade.
Brightly decorated windows can be seen all around the town – and the judge’s favourite has now been picked.
Eight business fronts were decorated with this year’s flower parade theme in mind – a journey through the decades from the 1950s to today.
There were also a number of other decorated shops and offices which aren’t part of the trail – covering Spalding in a sea of flowers.
There were nods to the groovy 1960s and trips back in time to the 1970s and iconic 80s items, which all became part of a number trail around the town.
The staff at Bonmarché were delighted to receive a prize cup and a rosette after wowing with their 70s inspired window display.
The team had decorated not one but three windows with crocheted and knitted flowers, old photos, plus 70s items and records.
Store manager Vicky Beal said: “We are absolutely over the moon to have won.
“Everyone hard a part in putting the windows together and it took about six weeks.
“Sue Seymour and Rosie Howling pulled it all together. When everyone started bringing bits in and making flowers they made a plan of what to do with it.
“We loved watching the parade and the whole week before we had lots of people coming in to the store.
“It was brilliant.”
There was an honourable mention for Spalding Library where an 80s design featured some of the most popular reads and cassette tapes from the decade.
Joined by a few other businesses in the town centre, those displaying special decorated were hunted out by visitors who could enter the competition online or by printing off an entry form.
The event wasponsored by Rose Lettings and judged by Spalding Guardian reporters Kat Wakefield and Bridie Short.
The winner of the number trail competition, which drew to a close on Friday, was announced as Emily Spendelow. She was awarded £150.
