Work continues to link proposed South Lincolnshire reservoir with Boston and Peterborough waterway project

Work is continuing on a project which could see a waterway link between Boston, Peterborough and a south Lincolnshire reservoir.

Water Resources East (WRE) is working with Anglia Water on plans to create a reservoir in south Lincolnshire to store water along with meeting the needs of the growing population.

As we reported in March last year, plans are being developed to create a reservoir the size of Grafham Water which could be linked to the Boston to Peterborough Wetland Project and boost tourism for the area.

While locations have not been identified and design work is at an early stage, the reservoir will play an important role in Anglian Water’s Future Fens proposal and a second reservoir could be built in nearby Cambridgeshire or Norfolk.

On the Inland Waterways Association website Robin Price, WRE managing director, outlined four potential projects which could transfer water between areas.

These included the 12-mile Boston to Peterborough Wetlands Corridor and an opportunity to link the proposed new reservoir with Rutland Water using Stamford Corridor.
