Lincolnshire County Council announce £288k project to improve footpath to Springfields Outlet Shopping and Leisure in Spalding

Work will be starting next month on a £288,000 project to improve a footpath to a shopping centre in a bid to encourage more people to leave their cars at home.

Lincolnshire County Council says it will be starting the second phase of improving footway and cycleway links in Spalding by adding a 240-metre link along the Coronation Bank from Holbeach Road to Springfields Outlet Shopping and Leisure.

The county has already extended and resurfaced a shared path in Holbeach Road and says the second phase will cost £288,000. This is being funded by the same £20million Government grant which is also paying for improvements to the Springfields and Greencell Roundabouts.

Coun Richard Davies, executive member for highways, said: “Last year, we extended and resurfaced the existing shared-use path on Holbeach Road and we’re now ready to carry out the next phase of this important project.

“Starting next month, we’ll be further improving connections to the Springfield Outlet area by building a brand-new 240-metre link along the Coronation Bank from Holbeach Road to the shopping outlet car park.

“The overall aim of this project is to provide people with safer, more reliable sustainable travel options in Spalding.

“We’re doing this by improving connectivity via the area’s footways and cycleways, which will hopefully encourage more people to leave their cars at home to walk or cycle instead.”

The proposed start date for the works is Monday, February 3, for up to nine weeks.

As part of the works, the following traffic management will be in place:

- Footpath closure from the A151 (adjacent to Coronation Channel) as and when required

-Temporary closure of the northern footway on A151 Holbeach Road as needed

- The diversion route for pedestrians will be on the opposite side of carriageway

Coun Davies added: “We don’t expect there to be much disruption caused by these works. However, there may be times when the footpath and/or the northern A151 footway will need to be closed. A local diversion will be in place, and we ask anyone using this route to follow any posted signs.”
