Work to start on replacement Spalding footbridge

Work to build a replacement footbridge is now ready to begin.

Two Plank Bridge, which takes pedestrians from Spalding to Pinchbeck, was removed in March 2022 by Lincolnshire County Council as part of the construction of the town’s western relief road.

Local people had voiced concerns about the 18-month closure as the old wooden bridge had been a well-used link between Spalding and Pinchbeck for school children and it was also a popular route for dog walkers.

Officials say work is due to begin shortly in constructing the new replacement steel structure.

A highways spokesperson said: “Construction of the Spalding Western Relief Road's northern section is continuing ahead as planned, with the main works still set to be complete by late summer.

“Two Plank Bridge expected to re-open by the end of the year, with piling works for the bridge set to start in mid-August.”
