Work underway to build new Aldi store in Holbeach

Work is now well underway to build a new town supermarket.

Aldi has been granted permission to transform a former South Holland District Council depot site in Fleet Road, Holbeach, into a new store – and will be creating 40 jobs.

Construction workers are now on the site to begin taking down the former depot building.

A spokesperson for Aldi stated: “We are pleased to have commenced the demolition works at our site adjacent to Fleet Street in Holbeach. We want to assure the local community that all activities are being carried out in strict adherence to our Risk Assessment Method Statement (RAMS) and HSE Guidance.

“Our contractors are working hard on site to complete the demolition works and begin construction of the new store to ensure that the local community are able to access our high-quality produce at low prices during the current cost of living crisis.”

The application had been granted by South Holland District Council’s planning committee in March.

Another supermarket chain, Lidl, has also confirmed that it is eyeing up Holbeach as a potential site for a new store.

Lidl has issued a brochure of towns in which it would be interested in buying land in – and Holbeach is on that list. Spalding is also listed within the brochure, but the retailer already has two stores in the town.
