Spalding firefighters will be working at the car wash

Spalding firefighters are holding an event to help residents spruce up their cars while raising money for an important cause.

The crew at Spalding Fire Station will be setting up their car wash on Saturday, September 12 at the station on West Elloe Avenue.

Whole-time firefighter Daniel Cooper is organising the event, which will be raising money for The Fire Fighters’ Charity.

He said: “At the moment, the charity is losing around £200,000 a month and it’s struggling as there’s been no fundraising due to COVID-19.

“This is our first fundraising event of the year but we have a few more in the pipeline too.

“There will be the crew of four who are working on that day, plus some of the on-call firefighters and a few who will be on days off too.

“There’s no set limit for donations, whatever people can donate is appreciated and the more we can get together the better.”

Due to the pandemic, there will be safety measures in place and a COVID risk assesment has been carried out.

Dan added: “It will all be COVID safe and we will have buckets on poles so that we can collect the donations safely. There will also be signs in place to direct people to what they need to do. It should be a great day!”

The event runs from 10.30am to around 3pm on Saturday, September 12. For more information, visit @spaldingfire on Instagram
