Yorkshire Trading Company hopes to open in Spalding on March 5 with recruitment under way
Yorkshire Trading Company has confirmed that it will be opening in Spalding's former M&Co store.
The firm says it could open in Bridge Street as soon as March 5 - a week on Saturday - and revealed that it is interviewing members of the former M&Co team as part of the process of recruiting staff for the store.
M&Co closed its doors on February 12 - although bosses are thought to be looking into a new home in the town.
A Yorkshire Trading Company lorry was spotted unloading in Vine Street earlier today - and people have been working inside the store.
Mark Johnson, Operations and Compliance Manager for Yorkshire Trading Company, said: "We can confirm that, yes, Yorkshire Trading Company is moving into the former M&Co store on Bridge Street.
"We have already begun works to transform the store to match our trading format. Our aim is to open around Saturday March 5th or as soon as we can thereafter.
"Our range tries to cover everything for family, home and garden from stationery to socks, washing up bowls to weedkiller."
Mr Johnson says the store will stock a wide range of products including greeting cards, stationery, toys, kitchenware, homewares, DIY, decorating, petcare, babycare, camping, gardening, haberdashery and soft furnishings.
It also offers its own outdoor clothing range Rydale, which is popular with horse riders and dog walkers.
Mr Johnson added: "There will be a whole brand new team recruited from the Spalding area creating probably 20 new jobs from weekend sales team members right up to store manager.
"We have just begun interviewing for the roles and many of them include members of the former M&Co team."
