Voice of Love Island Iain Stirling talks ahead of his gig at Spalding’s South Holland Centre

A comedian whose voice has become synonymous with a hit TV dating show is performing live at a town’s theatre.

Comic Iain Stirling will be appearing in The Best In Comedy at the South Holland Centre, Spalding, on Saturday, November 25 at 8pm – with only a few seats currently remaining.

The star provides witty commentary to Love Island from which many will recognise his lilting Scottish accent.

Spalding Today had a chat with the star, who is married to television presenter Laura Whitmore, ahead of the show, produced by Anglia Comedy Co. Fin Taylor, Sara Barron and Travis Jay are also on the bill.

Although he has never visited the town or theatre before, the funny man said: “Spalding has a B&M and a B&Q so you are already smashing it.

“I have been to Lincolnshire before and will have a look around Spalding.

“I am really excited to be performing on a mixed bill – I don’t do many – so it will be a novel setting to be in.”

His friend, Fin Taylor, is performing. Iain said: “He is one of my favourite comedians – he does funny stuff online as well.

“He has been criminally underrated for a long time.”

The friends go way back to performing in pubs and clubs, driving to gigs in car shares and he looks forward to the live show.

Iain said: “In London gigs are ten-a-penny – so this will make us feel appreciated – that’s not the right word – but where there’s a buzz.”

The Bafta-winning performer has written comedy for children and he said: “I used to do shows for kids all the time.

“They are daunting as kids are very honest. There is no malice – they may say ‘I’m bored’ during a show but that is because they haven’t learnt social cues or empathy.

“I love doing that, it is what I am trying to do with my show – make it risqué – but also for families and teenagers.”

The show he refers to is called Relevant which will be his biggest tour to date and starts next year, visiting Lincoln on March 22.

As far as Love Island is concerned, for which he records his voice overs from his home studio. Iain said: “I do it when they ask me – Love Island is still absolutely killing it.”

The jovial comic lists Billy Connelly and Kevin Bridges among his comedy heroes and said: “I also rate Sam Campbell who I did a recent Taskmaster with.

“He is up-and-coming and won the Edinburgh Comedy Award.

“I also like Tommy Tiernan who is such a gem.”

The father finds touring easier now he has been ‘keeping a bit fitter and eating well’ and swaps the car shares with driving home after gigs to get ready for the morning school run.

He said of the forthcoming Spalding show: “It is is nice for me to go to places where people are excited to see stand-up.”
