Friends of Spalding Station place ornate steam train brackets on railway building
Keen-eyed commuters will have spotted a new addition to help brighten up the front of a town’s railway station.
Friends of Spalding Station have put up 18 ornate brackets with a unique steam train design for colourful baskets of flowers to hang from - funded by UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
Dale Welbourn and Jordan Crowson took down the old brackets which had become ‘rickety’ and fixed the replacements free of charge.
Jan Whitbourn, station adopter, said: “They look beautiful and you won’t see them at any other station in Lincolnshire.
“I always wanted the brackets to depict the station and they will look awesome with the hanging baskets.
“We are getting positive feedback with people already saying how great they look.
The older brackets had been up for some years and the replacements are seen as a solid investment for the future.
Jan added: “When Dale got in contact and offered to put them up properly as a community gesture tears welled up in my eyes.
“People want the station and area to look nice - as do I.”
