Spalding’s Tulip Academy pupils enjoy fairground fun
‘Excited’ youngsters enjoyed a sunny day at the fair for free.
Children with special additional needs and disabilities had an entertaining day out at The Roger Tuby and Son Fun Fair yesterday (Thursday) afternoon.
Tulip Academy youngsters and adults from the Chappell Centre were able to go on rides such as The Waltzers, Grasshopper, Dodgems, Disco Fever, Mini Planes and more.
Vice President for Spalding Lions Club, Julie Grant said: “We had 130 very excited students and their teachers and carers turn up on Thursday afternoon.
“The late Roger Tuby, who was a member of Lions and now his son and daughter in law, Roger and Sophie, realised that students with various SEN requirements wouldn’t usually attend the fair, due to the loud music, flashing lights and the speed of the rides, which can mean over stimulation for some, which they would avoid.
“The two hours of fun are adapted so that everyone can enjoy the rides and the whole experience of a fair. The music is turned down, there are no flashing lights and the speed of the rides is at a much slower pace.
“Thanks to the generosity of Roger and Sophie Tuby of Roger Tuby & Son Fun Fair, Spalding Lions were able to invite students from our local SEN schools for a couple of hours of fun on the rides and candy floss for those who wanted it.
“Spalding Lions Club members are on hand at all times to help out and will go on the rides too if any children need someone by their side.”
The annual event in Spalding’s Victoria Street car park, allows the children to enjoy the buzzing atmosphere of the fair, in a safe and secure environment.
It is organised by the non-profit organisation, Spalding Lions Club, who has been working with Roger Tuby and Son for more than 35 years.
The fair will be in the Victoria Street car park until Monday, May 5.
