Dissatisfaction at councillors from letter writers in Fleet, Holbeach and Moulton

Here are the letters from the Spalding Guardian of Thursday, May 19, 2022...

They have such big egos

I am growing increasingly frustrated with how South Holland District Council is being run. Individual Councillors continue to bring the area down and have such big egos.

When will we see better people running our council at the higher levels?

Lord Porter please give us the councillors we need to run the area properly.

Can we please put the fountain back in the town, not out of the way.

I’ve had enough of Coun Coupland so won’t be voting for him next time.

He belongs in the past

We continue to see Coun Peter Coupland’s fingerprints over the failures at the council and the lack of understanding of what is going on in the real world.

It’s time for him to hand over the baton to someone who cares and will get things done for the benefit of all the people here, not just his ego.

This is the 21st Century and he belongs in the past.

We want modern thinking and appropriate councillors to represent us. Coun Coupland must go and go soon.

Sue Richardson

Holbeach

The sooner they leave, the better

I have read with interest the letters page over the last few weeks (regarding the street art vote and re-siting of the Johnson fountain). I am, however, really annoyed with the response you had from Coun Coupland.

He clearly intimates that he doesn’t support residents and will only vote for how he feels. Maybe if he had spoken to the local people he would perhaps have voted with them rather than himself.

I notice Coun Grocock hasn’t issued a statement.Clearly he is running scared and realises the mistake he has made.

I will not be voting for my current councillor in the next election as he doesnt represent my views or those of the public.

The sooner these people are out of office the better.

I do question whether these individuals have the conviction to stand down and do the right thing.

No doubt we will continue to see the dictatorship of these two in the press regularly. I suggest they seriously rethink the fountain – all those on the planning committee that voted in favour of this should be kicked out next time.

Do what the residents want, not what these two tell us we want!

Thought for the Week: Add then together to spell faith

Have you eaten all your Easter eggs? What?! Easter was ages ago! Yes, it was but Jesus’ ascension didn’t take place until six weeks after His resurrection? So why did He stay?

Firstly, He appeared FREQUENTLY to His disciples so they were certain He was risen from the dead. At first, they weren’t at all convinced. Secondly, to give them ASSURANCE that even though they may not see Him physically He was with them and knew their circumstances.

Also, during this period Jesus INSTRUCTED them in the Scriptures. Jesus Himself said He was the fulfilment of all the law and prophets.

If these disciples misunderstood who Jesus was then the message would never be properly told. But it was also important they knew that He was TRUSTWORTHY. Jesus had foretold His rising from the dead.

If He was wrong about that nothing else He said could be depended on. These six weeks ensured that this was so. And He prepared them to receive the HOLY Spirit who would empower them to be His witnesses.

Bring all these together (at least the first letter of each!) and FAITH is created. Faith in the risen Lord Jesus Christ. It was this faith that brought the Christian church into being and that sustains it today.

It is a faith that can be yours, too. You can know Jesus’ presence, assuring you He understands all you experience. Reading the Bible can lead to belief that He is who He declared Himself to be – the Son of God and Saviour of the world. Jesus is trustworthy and the gift of the Holy Spirit is yours for the asking. And it is a faith that can be yours today and stay yours always, even when all the Easter eggs have gone.
