Your views on Weston development, our MP and Ukraine

Here are the Lincolnshire Free Press letters from March 15, 2021...

Our planners seem to be a dictatorship

It appears we have a new dictatorship rising up here in the east of Spalding (the South Holland District Council planning committee) who think they are above and beyond the people and residents who put them in position.

The residents of Weston do not want to become part of Spalding which is a diminished town ruined by the said council and its planners over the past 50 years.

We are a nice village for a reason. I agree, as I have said before, in encouraging development, but the planners should work with the developers to ensure sizes, quality and correct and conditional infrastructure for this area, not over-populated matchstick properties that lower residential values.

As for the contribution to build payments!

Do these councillors really know what is exactly required in Weston to improve it? The answer is no because they don’t listen.

Obviously if the councillors and planners cannot control the developers then we as residents will have no choice but to hold sanctions against the relevant authorities and stop paying council taxes and water charges.

Let’s face it, they know best. NOT.

Sir John should write about real issues

Why doesn’t Sir John Hayes write about more interesting things in his weekly column?

Such as what is happening in the country and the world and what he thinks of prime minister Boris Johnson and the Conservative Party’s Covid rules, Ukraine and Russia. I could go on.

So,come on Sir John, give your voters your views.

EDITOR: Sir John did write about Russia last week and he does read this newspaper so I am sure he will take your points on board.

Make time to ‘Paws for a picnic’

Spring is here, which means Easter is just around the corner too.

Your readers may already be starting to plan activities for the Easter holidays, so we’re asking everyone to consider taking part in our ‘Paws for a Picnic’ fundraiser.

It’s easy to get involved, all you need to do is identify a suitable picnic venue, invite your family and friends (with or without their canine companions), and enjoy some quality time together raising funds for Humanimal Trust.

You can choose to ‘Paws for a Picnic’ anywhere you like – whether it’s your local park, beach, garden or weather-friendly location. You could even combine it with an Easter egg hunt for the kids (and adults of course!), or use it as an excuse for a much-needed community get together.

All the money raised will help the charity drive collaboration between vets, doctors, nurses and researchers so that all humans and animals can benefit from medical progress, but not at the expense of an animal’s life. This is otherwise known as One Medicine.

POEM: ‘A song from a refugee’

A little bird came singing to my garden just today,

I listened when he told me ‘I’m afraid I cannot stay.

For I must leave this lovely place,

And find a border that is safe,

Yesterday was good for me,

And I thought that it would always be,

So now I join the many

Who, have to roam,

And find a place

we can call home.’
