Holbeach Hub to offer mindfulness sessions to help secondary school children

Youngsters will be able to learn skills to improve concentration and manage stress during new sessions.

The Holbeach Hub is introducing mindfulness sessions for secondary school aged children during the Friday night Youth Club, starting today (Friday, May 9).

Tonic Health has been running a youth club in Holbeach for nearly two years and it is proving popular by attracting nearly 50 youngsters to each session.

“In today’s fast-paced world, young people face unprecedented challenges to their mental health and wellbeing,” said Michael Morris, CEO of Tonic Health.

“By introducing mindfulness techniques in an accessible, youth-friendly environment, we’re equipping them with powerful tools they can use throughout their lives.”

Students will be able to participate in three structured 20 minute sessions which will be held between 5.30pm and 6.30pm during the Friday night youth club.

Mindfulness practices are reported to help youngsters manage difficulties and flourish by developing greater awareness, attention control, and emotional regulation skills.

Wendy-Anne Steer, who will be leading the sessions said: “Mindfulness training helps young people engage the prefrontal cortex, supporting emotional regulation, attention control, and executive functioning.

“By integrating these practices into youth programming, we’re not just offering calm moments; we’re supporting long-term cognitive and emotional development.”

Tonic Health runs a youth club on Tuesdays from 4pm to 6pm for primary school children while the secondary school sessions run from 5pm to 7pm on Fridays.

The team are also looking for volunteers with sports experiences, particularly in football, to help.
