Abbi Pulling to take part in a dedicated test session for women racing drivers in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship

A memorable campaign will feature another career highlight for Abbi Pulling this week after being selected to take part in a world-first for an FIA Championship.

The Gosberton driver has already become the first woman to win a race in British Formula 4 this season.

The 21-year-old is also top of the F1 Academy standings this term having recorded seven wins in 10 races so far this season.

And now the former Bourne Academy pupil has been selected to take part in a dedicated test session for women racing drivers in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.

Pulling will join fellow Alpine Academy driver Sophia Floersch in appearing for Nissan in Madrid in their pre-season testing which runs from today (Tuesday) until Friday.

It gives teams the opportunity to field their choice of talent in their GEN3 Evo for a dedicated test which is another momentous milestone for Pulling.

She said: "I've been wanting to drive a Formula E car for a long time, so to be given the chance to test the Nissan e-4ORCE 05 is a dream.

"I am very excited to take on the challenge of learning the car with the guidance of the Nissan crew.

"There is a lot to learn and much more to manage so we will take it step by step.

"It's a completely different environment to what I'm used to, but the focus is on doing what the team asks of me and to enjoy a productive test together."

Pulling and Floersch have been fully integrated into the team's testing programme with the duo already working alongside the crew in its Paris workshop, along with gaining experience in the simulator before hitting the Circuit del Jarama track in Madrid

Tommaso Volpe, managing director and team principal at Nissan, commented: "This is a great initiative to give women the opportunity to test Formula E machinery and we're delighted to be taking part with two cars.

"The number of women racing drivers has been increasing in recent years and we're proud to be contributing to the acceleration of this process.

"It’s a fantastic chance for Sophia and Abbi and we're very pleased to have two of the highest-profile women drivers.

"It should be a productive session, both for the team moving forwards and a great experience for Sophia and Abbi as they look to further their motorsport careers."

The first-of-its-kind test in the all-electric championship provides elite women racing drivers the opportunity to drive the car which is capable of 0-60 mph in just 1.82 seconds – 30 percent faster than a current F1 car.

The car will also be tested during the same week by the 11 world-class race teams and 22 drivers currently competing in the series.

Pulling will then turn her attention to the penultimate round of the F1 Academy season in Qatar from November 29-December 1.

She is currently 95 points clear of second-placed Doriane Pin with a maximum of 54 points available at each race weekend. The series concludes in the United Arab Emirates from December 6-8.
