Sonny Parsons and Will Cole win the Entertainer Points Series at the Unlimited Banger British Team Open Championship

As expected Spalding based drivers played a massive part in Sunday’s Unlimited Banger British Team Open Championship – better known as the Icebreaker.

The event lived up to its name with freezing temperatures and dense fog coming and lifting several times throughout the afternoon.

Despite that though the drivers put on a tremendous hard hitting display which warmed up the decent crowd in attendance.

While the action on track was red-hot, the work in the pits was also impressive with the meeting final fielding more than 50 of the 86-car entry – which given the damage sustained throughout the afternoon was nothing short of incredible.

The Aftermath team, featured Spalding livewires Sonny Parsons and Will Cole, were expected to perform well but they exceeded all expectations by winning the Entertainer Points Series which ran throughout the afternoon.

The Aftermath have had plenty of success in banger team competitions in the past but this is the first time they have ever got a rostrum finish at the Icebreaker in its 29-year history.

From the drop of the green flag, the team were on it straight away and all the team members scored points in the opening heat with Parsons and Cole – along with captain Callum White – taking maximum entertainer points.

Performances like the opening heat were repeated throughout the afternoon and the Aftermath deservedly finished on top of the points table.

Sonny commented: "Well what can I say? A mega day from start to finish. We made it out for all races, had a few laps and had some good crashes.

"The team were on it from the start and thanks go to everyone for their help in the pits. On to the next one as they say."

Cole's performance was even the more impressive with it being his first appearance in the rear wheel drive Unlimited Bangers.

He said: "It was an absolute man’s day in the Volvo. I was very pleased with myself for my first go in an Unlimited Banger and winning the Entertainer points and being part of the first Aftermath team to do well in an Unlimited Icebreaker was unbelievable.

"It wouldn’t have been possible without all the help from the team in the yard and pits and thanks go to them."

Success was not limited to the Unlimited Bangers with Sutton Bridge cousins Shane and Curtis Murkin having a great day in the Junior Bangers.

Both had silverware to take home with Shane finishing in third place in his opening heat which was then followed by Curtis doing the same in a the final which was a fantastic result.
