Holbeach United host Whitton United in the Thurlow Nunn League

Tigers boss Danny Clifton is facing a balancing act as he prepares to look at the potential of the club's players in their final two league games of the season.

Holbeach play their last home match of the Thurlow Nunn League Division One North campaign on Saturday when they host Whitton United at Carter's Park.

The season then concludes the following weekend with a trip to Stanway Pegasus who have already booked their place in the play-offs.

Holbeach's hopes of a top five finish were ended after defeat at Diss last weekend and manager Clifton is planning to make the most of the next two games.

He said: "I am going to try and find a balance over the next two games.

"I want to do as much as we can to get maximum points but I'm also in a position where now it's a prime opportunity to look at the potential players which we've got.

"We will bring in a couple of lads who we have been looking at throughout the system and see what they've got in the next two games.

"If they do well then we can look at them again in pre-season.

"We want to try and stay competitive to get the maximum points because I want to win on Saturday and get three points from our last home game of the season."

Although Holbeach will remain as a step six club for a second successive season, Clifton has been happy with the progress his side have made this term.

They have already gained 16 more points than last season and have a core of home-grown players at the heart of their first team.

The Holbeach boss added: "People from the outside don't see what's going on within the football club because, if you look at the future, it's going to be in a good position within the next two or three years due to the playing personnel.

"We are creating those players at every age group with every team which we've got and they will only get better.

"It will only grow and everything is positive even if it doesn't always look like that when you lose one football match when you're so close.

"I was disappointed after Saturday but, looking back at it, I'm pleased with how things have gone. It's all about progression and that comes in stages.

"We consolidated last season and the next progression is to break into those play-offs. I am comfortable with the position which the football club is in.

"We have competed for the whole season and it's not like we crept into it for the last few games.

"At one stage, it did look like a disappointing season but we have moved forward and realistically if we had got into the play-offs and won them then it's a whole different picture for the football club and potentially a more concerning one.

"I think we are in the right place for where the club is at the moment. We can be a really competitive step six football club which is growing players. The time will come when it is right to be a step five club."

Holbeach will again be without George Frost, Kyle Compton and Ben Greenacre on Saturday while Will Barnes is also doubtful after sustaining a hamstring injury in the defeat at Diss.

Deeping Rangers play their final match of the United Counties League Premier Division North season on Saturday when they host Lincoln United.

Division One champions Bourne travel to face Southwell City.
