The thoughts of full-back Ben Hart after joining Spalding United from Kettering Town

New signing Ben Hart is hoping to build on one of the most successful seasons of his career after agreeing to join Spalding United.

The full-back was an integral part of Kettering Town's season last term in the Southern League Premier Division Central.

Hart helped the Poppies reach the play-off final as well as a memorable run to the second round of the FA Cup.

He played nearly 50 games for the Northamptonshire club on his return to full fitness after twice breaking his leg playing for Tamworth and then Coalville.

Hart said: "I broke my leg in my second season with Tamworth and then in the first game of the season after I had joined Coalville so last year was one of the best that I've had for a while.

"I played nearly 50 games, which was my target.

"It was a good season and I'm hoping to push on even more this year."

An attacking right-sided defender, Hart contributed 14 assists for the Poppies last season.

He set up their goal in the 1-1 draw with Spalding at the Sir Halley Stewart ground and also sent over the cross for Kettering to score their winning goal in the FA Cup giant killing at Northampton Town.

Hart added: "Getting the ball into the box and trying to create goals is one of my stronger points.

"My crossing is one of the best parts of my game. I want to help create goals and it's one of the things that I enjoy most.

"I enjoy the wing-back role because it gives me more freedom to go up and down the pitch."

Hart came through the ranks at Burton Albion and made a handful of League One appearances for the Brewers before loan spells with Kidsgrove Athletic, Tamworth and Redditch.

He moved permanently to Coalville Town ahead of a successful season at Kettering.

After narrowly missing out on promotion last term, he is determined to go one better this time with the Tulips.

Hart commented: "You always want to play in those big games because it will only help make you a better player.

"I'm the type of lad who wants to win games and leagues and that's what the gaffer wants to achieve.

"I will always put in 110 percent effort for every gaffer because that's what I think players should do.

"I've heard that Jimmy (Dean, Spalding manager) is a winner and I want to reflect what he is about.

"The club is moving forward which looks really good and positive and it's going to be a really good season."

Hart is the third newcomer at the Sir Halley Stewart ground after Spalding secured the services of defender Connor Johnson from Kettering and King's Lynn midfielder Josh McCammon.

Twelve players from last season's squad have returned with eight being released.
