The Bull Dog short mat bowls team from Holbeach make a strong start after winning promotion to Division One of the Cambridgeshire League




The Bull Dog short mat bowls team have made a strong start after winning promotion to the top flight of the Cambridgeshire League.

The Holbeach St Johns based team shared the spoils with March Braza in their opening match before recording back-to-back wins over Wisbech St Mary and Gorefield Wolves and then drawing with Doddington.

They recorded a 77-43 success for an overall 10-2 triumph over Wisbech last Thursday night which was followed on Monday by a 77-49 (8-4) win over the Wolves.

Chris West and Billy Chapman were both victorious in the singles against Wisbech with Alan Wright and Pete Griffiths also triumphing in the pairs.

The winning run continued in the triples with Chris and Kelly West joining forces with Richard Warrington to triumph while Wright, Chapman and Griffiths wrapped up a successful evening with another victory.

Chris West enjoyed further singles success against Gorefield with Warrington and Kelly West victorious in the pairs.

Two triples triumphs from Warrington, Chris West and Kelly West as well as Wright, Chapman and Griffths secured the win.

A trip to Doddington on Wednesday night saw the Bull Dog team return with the honours even after a 6-6 draw.

Chris West was again victorious in the singles with Warrington and Griffiths winning in the doubles.

The trio of Warrington, Chris West and Kelly West then won in the triples to secure a draw after edging the overall points 52-56.

The club is looking for new players and meets three nights a week - Monday, Thursday and Friday - at the Holbeach St Johns village hall on Joy's Bank from 7-9pm and anyone interested in joining is more than welcome to attend.

The club runs a mini competition every Friday night and also attends the Gateway Club once a month to put on a variety of sessions for its members.
