Deeping Rangers beat Newark and Sherwood in the United Counties League
Deeping Rangers recorded a third successive victory to continue their move away from the United Counties League relegation zone.
The Clarets were 1-0 home winners over Newark and Sherwood thanks to a second half penalty from Josh Moreman in the Premier Division North clash.
It backed up previous wins over Kimberley Miners Welfare and Gresley Rovers and leaves Brett Whaley's side six points clear of the bottom two relegation places.
The Deeping boss said: "The most important thing with the situation we're in at this time of the season is points.
"It isn't about performances or anything else - it's about making sure that we come out of the game with something.
"It was similar to last week in that it wasn't a great advert for the league but we played into areas to get up the pitch to try and make them defend their box to nick a win which was important for us.
"We can't say that we've played well in the last two weeks but there's two sides to football matches.
"We are grinding out results and the most important thing is our league position and getting points on the board."
The Highwaymen created the better chances in the first half with Luke White seeing an effort blocked while Kieran Cummings was denied by a brave save from Clarets custodian Aaron Butcher.
Butcher foiled Cummings again shortly after with another crucial stop after Kieran Walker's initial effort had been blocked before Tyler Dacres rattled the home crossbar with a shot as the first half finished goalless.
Rangers then got their noses in front 10 minutes into the second half when Moreman was brought down in the area and the former Spalding player picked himself up to convert the resultant spot kick.
Cummings flashed a shot just wide from a free-kick for the visitors before the Clarets came close to doubling their lead.
Substitute Oleksandr Muzychuk won possession and played in James Stainsby who was denied by a superb last-ditch tackle from Sam King.
Marley Fearon headed a late chance wide for the visitors before Cummings was narrowly off target from another free-kick as Rangers responded to a challenge from their boss to keep a second successive clean sheet.
Whaley added: "I asked the players last week if they could get two wins on the bounce which they did and this week I wanted two clean sheets on the bounce because our goal difference is appalling.
"It is difficult to fix both ends of the pitch so we've set out to stop conceding the goals and we've done that which is a massive positive.
"The confidence is starting to come back so maybe the football will as well but it is a very difficult time of the year for the pitches.
"We've just got to keep looking at what will get us points until we know that we're safe, which is still a long way away."
Former Spalding United and Pinchbeck attacker Enoch Opayinka was on the substitutes' bench for Deeping as joining from Premier Division South side Yaxley.
Whaley said: "I worked briefly with Enoch at Spalding and got to see the talent he has.
"He's got a good goalscoring record and now needs the opportunity to show what he's capable of. I think he brings something different to the squad."
Deeping play the return fixture against Newark and Sherwood on Saturday when they travel to Harrowby United where the Highwaymen ground-share for their home fixtures.
