Reaction from Spalding United manager Jimmy Dean after their victory over Barwell
Delighted boss Jimmy Dean praised the appetite of his Spalding United players as they recorded a crucial home success on Saturday.
The Tulips produced a terrific team effort in tough conditions to take the three points in their match against Barwell at the Sir Halley Stewart ground.
Dean was full of praise for his charges as first half goals from Bart Cybulski and Nathan Fox helped earn a 2-1 victory.
The Spalding manager said: "I was absolutely delighted with the performance.
"I felt it was a 90-minute performance and we were the better side in both halves, with and without the wind.
"All the units have done really well. Tony Breeden has made one big save in the second half and the back four have been unbelievable.
"The midfield worked extremely hard and the front three were electric.
"The boys showed such an appetite which is a pleasing thing.
"They showed an appetite to be part of the team, play for this club and me because they've all come from different levels and places.
"They are still settling in but since we brought some of the new boys in we've won two, drawn one and lost one of our last four games.
"If we isolate the Bishop's Stortford result where the performance wasn't bad, it's been a good few weeks."
The victory moved Spalding out to the relegation zone and level on points with both Barwell and Royston Town.
Dean added: "It feels good to be out of it because it's a place where no-one wants to be, regardless of where you think you're going to end up.
"It's a big win for us and the performance levels in the last four games have been good because we've been the better team in each match.
"We are looking a lot better and the biggest compliment that I can give the players is I didn't want to make a substitution until the 90th minute and the reason for that was because the 11 out there had been so good."
Spalding now travel to Alvechurch next Saturday.
