The new season of stock car racing gets underway at King's Lynn

Spalding area drivers will be targetting success when the 2023 stock car season bursts into life at King’s Lynn this Saturday (5pm).

There’s a triple bill of full contact formulas in action in the shape of the BriSCA F2 stock cars, 2L stock cars and 1300 stock cars.

A big entry of cars is booked for action including drivers travelling from all over the United Kingdom together with several drivers making the trip over from mainland Europe.

Showing what a hot spot the Spalding area is for drivers though, more than 10 per cent of this cosmopolitan entry comes from this area.

Ten drivers will be in action in the F2 stock cars where World of Shale champion Charley Tomblin heads the list and he will be looking to build on the title he won at Bradford last season.

Jack and Pat Issitt also had a tremendous 2022 with the highlight of their season being on World Final night last year when Pat won the meeting which also saw Jack come home in third place.

Both brothers were putting some quick laps in on practice day last Saturday and, even with the likes of world champion David Polley being on track among others, the Issitt brothers consistently put in some of the quickest laps in each session.

The brothers will also be hoping for a repeat of this meeting 15 years ago when an Issitt won the meeting final on the season’s opening day but that was Pat and Jack’s father Carl who will no doubt be offering plenty of advice to the boys how to repeat his feat in his capacity as crew chief this Saturday.

Other local drivers booked for action in the F2 stock cars this Saturday include Dan Booth, Justin Parker, Gavin Mason, Steve Wycherley, Daniel Vaughan and the father and son duo of Barry and Jason Clow.

A good field of 2L stock cars sees Wes Starmer, Rob Heanes, Tom Yould and brothers Simon and Rowan Venni in action while Caine Parnell will be racing in the 1300 stock cars.
