Success for Spalding Indoor Bowls Club at the Lincolnshire county finals
Spalding Indoor Bowls Club came away with eight county champions and six runners-up from the Lincolnshire finals at Sleaford.
Fresh from his success at the world championships, Dominic McVittie started the day by retaining the men's singles title after beating club-mate Dan Mills 21-14.
In the ladies singles, Ruby Philpott won the title for the third time by beating Mary Johnson from Horncastle 21-6.
In another all-Spalding affair, Ruby won the ladies under 25 singles title for the fifth time by beating Danielle Wild 21-7.
Aidan Brickles also won the under 18 singles for the first time and added his name to the trophy which has historically been won by boys and girls who have gone on to represent England at under 25 and senior level.
In the mixed pairs, Jean Patterson and Dominic McVittie won the title for the third season in a row by turning around a 7-16 deficit and beating Jenna Earl and Nick Orrey from Lincoln on an extra end (17-16).
Ruby won her third title of the day in the ladies pairs as she was joined by Chelsea Spencer to beat Gail Windsor and Deb McBride from Scunthorpe 22-10 after taking an early 15-0 lead.
In the men’s triples, Dominic McVittie was joined by Martin Spencer and Mathew Orrey as they beat Tony Stanley, Richard Barnes and Trevor Bannister from Sleaford in the final 21-13.
After losing in the final of the national fours only two weeks ago, Martin, Mathew and Dominic were joined by Stephen Harris as they bounced back to win the county crown by beating club-mates Dan Mills, Brian Martin, Ean Morton and Tristan Morton in the final 19-10.
Unfortunately, there was disappointment for Spalding in the men's pairs as Simon Lilley and Stephen Harris lost against Lincoln's Sam Ashton and George Draper 12-18 while Martin Simpson was beaten in the final of the over 60 singles by Paul Bark from Horncastle 10-21.
In the sets singles, Jordan Philpott gave the defence of his title a tremendous effort but just fell short in the final against Paul Oke from Sleaford, narrowly losing on a tie break.
