Spalding United host Rugby Town in the Northern Premier League Midlands Division

Manager Elliot Sandy is hoping the Spalding United fans will turn out in force to back their team's championship crusade on Saturday.

The Tulips host Rugby Town at the Sir Halley Stewart ground in another vital Northern Premier League Midlands Division match.

Sandy's side have taken 10 points from their last four league games and are hot on the heels of table-topping Harborough Town after the two sides shared the spoils in a goalless draw last weekend.

Spalding also have seven wins from their eight home league games this season with Sandy keen to maintain his side's recent momentum.

He said: "We'll take the point last Saturday because a draw away at Harborough is not a bad result at all and we move on."

"We're still right up there in the mix and we're closer enough to Harborough to have an impact.

"We're looking forward to being back on home turf on Saturday where hopefully the supporters will come out and give us a real go.

"We're in good form at the moment and the lads are giving everything for the shirt and the club which is what fans and myself want to see."

Visiting Rugby are in their first season back at step four of the non-league pyramid after winning promotion from the United Counties League Premier Division South last term.

They are currently just outside the bottom two relegation places but one of their four league wins this term has been against league leaders Harborough, whose game in hand on Spalding was postponed on Tuesday night.

The Tulips won the last step four league meeting between the two sides at the Sir Halley Stewart with a 3-1 home success in September 2016.

The club will be taking donations for their Christmas foodbank appeal at Saturday's home match.

The initiative - Tulips Against Hunger - is aimed at supporting the local community over the festive period.

They are asking for donations of crisps, biscuits, cakes, chocolate, tinned meat, jams and spreads, uht milk, tea and coffee, tinned fruit/veg, cheese biscuits, pickles, hot chocolate and children's selection boxes.
