Former Bolton Wanderers, Plymouth Argyle, Ipswich Town, Portsmouth and Leeds United midfielder David Norris could feature for Whaplode Drove Rovers

A former professional footballer who has played in more than 500 senior games could make a cup final appearance for Whaplode Drove Rovers on Friday night.

Midfielder David Norris played professionally for Bolton Wanderers, Plymouth Argyle, Ipswich Town, Portsmouth and Leeds United during his career which started at Stamford AFC before he moved to Boston United.

The 44-year-old has been registered this season with Whaplode who play in Division One of the Peterborough League.

Norris is a close friend of Rovers chairman Al Lenihan who helped launch his career as a youngster and he has already made two appearances for the club this season.

He featured in a recent league game against Netherton when he apparently indicated he could be involved in the cup final against them.

Netherton are seeking a treble of sorts having won the Northants Lower Junior Cup to follow promotion from Division One as runners-up.

Whaplode Drove finished fourth and have won one and lost one of their league meetings this season with their Peterborough opponents.

They won 4-0 in the first meeting of the season at the Elizabethan Centre before losing 2-0 in the return fixture.
