Spalding Rugby Club play Stamford College Old Boys
Spalding 2nds and Stamford College Old Boys defied a persistent diagonal breeze to play attractive rugby in their match at Centenary Park on Saturday.
The hosts recorded a 71-20 success in a game that was far more competitive than the final scoreline suggested.
Old Boys scored first and remained competitive until half-time having used the wind effectively and putting the home side under pressure.
Spalding fly half Bailey Hudson, who was a threat to the visitors all afternoon, converted his own score to put Spalding ahead.
They increased their lead with four more first half tries from Thomas Dunbar and Owen Coon - the latter finishing his second score with an extravagant acrobatic dive. Hudson added two conversions.
The half-time score of 31-15 was soon extended with Hudson adding another touchdown along with a penalty and kicking three conversions following tries from Aaron Brundle (two), Ciaran Constable and Sam Hall.
On the final whistle, the referee congratulated both sides on their excellent attitudes and sportsmanship.
Spalding are in action at Centenary Park again on Saturday when they entertain Leesbrook in an NLD Shield semi-final (3pm).
