Pinchbeck holds talks with potential new manager

Pinchbeck United could finally be edging closer to having a new manager after chairman Gary Coomes admitted talks with a "candidate who we're very keen on".

The Knights have a break from Uhlsport United Counties League Premier Division action on Saturday when they visit Division One side Aylestone Park in their Buildbase FA Vase first round qualifying tie.

Pinchbeck have conceded 14 goals in their three competitive matches so far this season, the most recent being a 4-1 defeat at Wellingborough Town last Saturday.

Before their FA Vase tie, the Knights faced Peterborough Northern Star at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field in the league last night (result not known at the time of going to press).

Coomes said: "The team have been a good bunch of lads but I'm not prepared to scratch around the bottom of the league and wait for good results to happen.

"We'll keep bringing in players until we get it right and we've been speaking to a candidate for the manager's job who we're very keen on.

"We're just waiting for the Is' to be dotted and the Ts' to be crossed which we hope will come soon."

In the meantime, Coomes has brought in ex-Bourne Town assistant manager Tom Crozier to support him and first team coach Alfie Tate.

Meanwhile, striker Corey Kingston, who came on as a substitute in the FA Cup defeat to St Neots, has left Pinchbeck.
