Pinchbeck United host Gorleston Reserves in the Thurlow Nunn League

Manager Lewis Thorogood wants his Pinchbeck United side to be fully focused on picking up three points when they return to Thurlow Nunn League action on Saturday.

The Knights host Gorleston Reserves in a Division One North match at the Sir Halley Stewart ground (3pm).

Pinchbeck go into the game on the back of a 2-0 away league loss at Framlingham last weekend and a 5-0 home reversal against Bourne Town on Tuesday night in the Lincolnshire Senior Trophy.

With the Knights 14 points adrift of the play-off places, Thorogood wants his side to set off on a winning run.

He commented: "We've got to focus and dust ourselves down from Tuesday night because we need to get three points on Saturday.

"We need to start closing that gap between us and the play-off area with the games in hand that we've got and the primary focus now is to get three points on Saturday."

Thorogood was left to rue his side conceding a series of 'cheap' goals in their midweek defeat to higher level Bourne.

They shipped a goal late in the first half before Bourne scored a further four times without reply in the second period.

Thorogood added: "Bourne are very direct, powerful and strong and their link-up play is superb but we didn't really lay a glove on them in the first half.

"We kept in the game though but we gave away a really cheap goal just on the stroke of half-time.

"We should be defending it a lot better because it is then difficult to get back into it against a team like Bourne with the ascendancy they are on and confidence they've got.

"We came out for the second half really bright and breezy but then we gave away another cheap goal.

"It was also poor defending for the third goal and, when the fourth one slipped through Ben Martin's hands, it probably summed up the evening.

"We had enough about us to keep going but I was bitterly disappointed in the way we went out.

"We have tried to play football but you can't gift teams goals. Bourne did what they needed to do defensively and then took their chances when they appeared."

Deeping Rangers have a crucial home game against Hucknall having progressed in the Hinchingbrooke Cup on Tuesday night with a 3-1 win at Godmanchester Rovers.

Spalding travel to Redditch United in the Southern League Premier Division Central while Holbeach host Holland in the Thurlow Nunn League.
