Pinchbeck United boss Lewis Thorogood working round the clock to bolster squad ahead of Kimberley Miners Welfare trip

Lewis Thorogood will be working round the clock to strengthen his Pinchbeck United squad ahead of Saturday's trip to Kimberley Miners Welfare.

The Knights dropped to the foot of the UCL Premier Division North this weekend following a 4-0 defeat at neighbours Boston Town.

After seeing his winless side side go three games without scoring, and conceding 13 in the process, the manager is ready to ring out the changes.

“I’ll be working 24-7 to make sure we have the right people in for Kimberley,” Thorogood said.

“We're lacking quality in areas and we need to change that. I’ve told them that.

“We need points on the board and we need them on the board quickly. We're in a bit of a rut at the moment with four or five defeats on the bounce, which isn’t acceptable at any level.

“I have to get the strongest side out and the work starts now.”

After losing experienced squad members such as Neal Spafford, Dan Worthington and Spencer Weir-Daley since the tail end of last season, the Knights boss is keen to add some cool heads to his youthful squad.

“Every team cries out for experience,” Thorogood said.

“It’s not as readily available as it used to be, football has moved on. They also do command a price tag and that’s not something we have in abundance and we have to work within our means.

“We've got lads in there playing UCL football for the last three years, it’s not like they've been here a few weeks. They know the score.

“A bit of experience will help and we’ll work hard on the changes that have to be made. We can’t keep shipping goals and we can’t keep not scoring.”

Adding to United’s frustration is the news defender Owen Sheriff looks set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after picking up a hamstring injury at Boston.

“His hamstring is gone. He recovered and played on Wednesday at Skegnesss (last week) and came through completely unscathed but it’s gone,” Thorogood added.

“It’s a massive blow as he offers an abundance of experience for his age and he’s a catalyst for what we do.

“We’ve got quite a few lads back this week so back to the training ground this week and prepare for Kimberley.”

Saturday’s Nottinghamshire-based hosts sit just two points and four places above the Knights, having lost their last four contests.

Kick off at the Stag Recreation Ground will be at 3pm.
