Deeping Rangers joint manager Lee Clarke summed up his side's demolition of GNG Oadby Town as "one of those games where everything fell into place".

A second half-trick in just six minutes by T'ai Williams was the icing on the cake for the Clarets at the Haydon Witham Stadium on Saturday.

Before that though, Deeping went behind to a fifth minute header by Suleiman Nassor as the Poachers from Leicestershire threatened a repeat of their shock 3-2 league win in Market Deeping last November.

Even when Clarke equalised 12 minutes before half-time after good work from Matt Carter and Williams, no one suspected the goal rush that was on its way.

But Charlie Coulson's goal, direct from a corner, ten minutes into the second half opened the floodgates as two Jake Sansby penalties, a double for substitute Jake Showler and a second for Clarke sent the Clarets into a second round qualifying match at Uhlsport United Counties League (UCL) Division One side Lutterworth Athletic.

Clarke said: "The thing that was remarkable was that nine of the goals were scored in the second half which is quite amazing at our level.

"We were a little bit sloppy to begin with and we made a few mistakes in possession, allowing Oadby to break on us easily.

"They scored from a corner from which the ball was put in the only place our goalkeeper Dan Swan couldn't get to.

"Then they had a chance to go 2-0 up, but the guy put the chance over the bar when clean through on goal.

"We controlled the game without having any good possession, breaking them down and really hurting them.

"In the second half, we wanted to be on the front foot and so we asked the players for more ruthlessness to put more pressure on them.

"Then Charlie Coulson put his corner into an area where he knew that a goal was a possibility.

"It was a nice little trigger to set us off and as soon as it went in, there was only one team in it.

"Saturday was one of those games where everything fell into place and you don't have to overanalyse it.

"But it doesn't happen very often and when it does, you just have to take it, accept it, go with it and enjoy it for what it is."

Clarke and co-manager Daniel French were hoping for a reaction from the Clarets after Tuesday night's UCL Premier Division 3-2 home defeat to Wellingborough Town.

"Over the last five games of the season so far, we've defended really well and we've been really hard-working," Clarke said.

"But in the final third, it hasn't clicked so much until Saturday when it did.

"It was pleasing to see people taking on board what we've asked of them and it all fell into place on Saturday, which goes to show what can be done if all 11 players and substitutes are on their game and working hard.

Clarke had special praise for Williams, a Bermuda under-20 international and a product of the FCV Stamford academy, and Jake Sansby who played behind the lone striker.

"T'ai is nice and direct and sharp, doing a lot of the groundwork and able to stretch the game," Clarke said.

"On Saturday he created a bit more space for me by occupying defenders who were going back towards their own goal.

"He got his just rewards with the three goals, but I'm not sure he'll have three easier goals to score than the tap-ins he had.

"Jake Sansby has got a very good football brain and Saturday was one of those occasions where he kept the ball well and made things happen," Clarke said.

"He had a little bit more freedom and we relaxed his role, with T'ai going up front, allowing Jake to cover different areas of the pitch.

"His attitude has been superb since pre-season, he works hard and he's very creative with the ball.

"Jake's scored his two penalties and he's a very important part of what we want to do."

Clarke also talked about his own role for the Clarets, saying: "I bring something a bit different to what other strikers bring and I'm on the pitch to do a job.

"By scoring the goals, I'm hoping that I'm doing my bit for the side and Saturday was just one of those days when you could go home and enjoy the weekend."
