Donovan and Lawson Capes return with medals from the 92nd English Schools Championships
Brothers Donovan and Lawson Capes both returned with medals from the 92nd English Schools Championships at Birmingham's Alexander Stadium over the weekend.
The duo – who are the grandsons of Geoff Capes – were both representing Lincolnshire and Lawson landed a gold medal with Donovan coming back with bronze.
Lawson was first up out of the two and defended his junior boys shot title from last year with a throw of 16.85m.
This was a little under his best but the weather conditions were challenging with rain and high winds but the Bourne Grammar School pupil managed to win by a margin of more than three metres.
Donovan was competing in his last English Schools having qualified five times previously and winning gold, silver and bronze.
He was in an extremely competitive field and managed to win another bronze in an extremely tense competition which changed through the rounds.
He was pipped for silver right at the end but again won a position on the podium which is a fantastic result.
Lawson still has the England Championships left at the end of August while Donovan now does his final preparations for America in August where he is attending Adams State University.
