Annie Dunham and Dominic McVittie from the Spalding Indoor Bowls Club have won the national mixed pairs title for the first time
Two bowlers from the Spalding Indoor Club are celebrating after winning the national mixed pairs title for the first time.
Annie Dunham and Dominic McVittie were triumphant in the competition which was hosted by the City and County of Bristol Indoor Bowls Club.
They had secured qualification from the local stages and recorded a comfortable 20-5 win against Jackie Stewart-Tallack and David Bolt from South Shields Vipers in their last 16 tie.
The Spalding Lightning duo then had to overturn an 11-5 deficit in their quarter-final against the England international pairing of Chloe Brett and Lewis Baker from Huntingdon.
Dunham and McVittie picked up a count of six shots to take the lead for the first time at 17-12 and finished strongly to win 23-13 and book their place in the semi-final.
They faced Sandy Hazell, who is the England ladies captain, and Isaac Jenner from Swale in the last four where Dunham and McVittie led from the outset as they won 18-5.
In 2020, McVittie had lost in the final of this competition when playing for Blackpool Newton Hall so he was hoping to go one better this time round.
They played Alice Phillimore and Martin Heitzman from Falaise in the final.
McVittie knows Heitzman well as they play in the same England international rink.
The final was played at a very high quality by all four players but Dunham and McVittie were always in control and they ran out 15-5 winners.
