Pinchbeck United take on Eaton Socon in the Hinchingbrooke Cup
Pinchbeck United will be targeting a fourth successive victory in all competitions when they kick off their Hinchingbrooke Cup campaign tonight (Tuesday).
The Knights host Spartan South Midlands League Division One high-flyers Eaton Socon in their first round match at the Sir Halley Stewart ground.
Lewis Thorogood's side go into the match on the back of successive wins over Holland and Whitton United in the Thurlow Nunn League Division One North.
They also ousted higher level Deeping Rangers in the Lincolnshire Senior Trophy with the Knights manager keen for his side to maintain their momentum against an Eaton Socon team who have knocked Pinchbeck out of the competition for the past two seasons.
Thorogood said: "It's a game of football so we obviously want to win it.
"We're not going to mess about with the team or weaken things down because we want to keep the consistency going.
"It is a difficult one because the league is a priority for every team but we need to keep building our momentum."
Pinchbeck go into the cup clash after an excellent 2-0 away win at eighth-placed Whitton on Saturday.
They played up the slope in the opening half of the match at the King George Vth Playing Fields against a physical and direct Suffolk side.
Pinchbeck were rewarded for a bright start when Luke Cullen headed them in front after just five minutes of the match.
The game then turned into a scrappy contest before Pinchbeck doubled their lead just before half-time when Pat Kacirek stroked home a tidy finish following a weaving run from Josh Panton.
Whitton made four changes at the break in a bid to get into the contest but, despite clear chances being in short supply for Pinchbeck, they negated the threat of their hosts to return home with the three points.
Thorogood added: "We looked really good for the first 15 minutes and had some good passages of play.
"The first goal gave us a brilliant start but we then went a bit ragged and became too direct and got drawn into their game which didn't really suit us.
"The second goal came a bit out of nowhere and it was then about managing the game for us to see if we could build on what we had.
"We didn't really create much in the second half but we managed to see the game for what is a really good result.
"It's a difficult place to go against a team which has a decent home record so hopefully it has given us that bit of momentum that we need to take ourselves forward."
The Knights are offering free admission to Under 16s for the cup clash which gets underway at 7.45pm.
