Mixed fortunes for Pinchbeck United and Holbeach United in the Thurlow Nunn League
Two first half goals helped Pinchbeck United snap a nine-game run without a win in the Thurlow Nunn League after victory over AFC Sudbury Reserves on Saturday.
The Knights had gone into the game at the Sir Halley Stewart having drawn six and lost three of their previous nine matches in the Division One North.
However, goals from Andre Williams and Krisztian Gagyi secured their first success since the away win at Needham Market Reserves in February.
Williams curled home the opening goal from a free-kick midway through the first half before supplying a cracking cross for Gagyi to head home the second goal just before the break.
Goalkeeper Ben Martin and his defence then kept a third successive clean sheet to leave Pinchbeck in 10th spot with three matches remaining.
Holbeach United suffered their heaviest defeat of the season after a 5-0 away loss at third-placed Harwich and Parkeston.
The Tigers had made the trip to Essex having failed to win in the last four games and they fell behind after just seven minutes when Gareth Heath curled home a fine finish to put the hosts in front.
The lead was doubled within 10 minutes as Joe Boreham-Knight headed home from a corner.
A third goal then followed late in the half from the penalty spot when Alfie Eldridge was fouled and Boreham-Knight slotted home the resultant spot kick.
Holbeach came out for the second half looking to make amends for their performance in the opening period and they created a flurry of early chances.
Ryan Cook, Pat Kacirek and Kyle Compton all went close before Marley Hamilton rattled the crossbar with a shot.
Hamilton hit another effort just wide before Holbeach were punished for not taking their chances after conceding a fourth goal midway through the half as Boreham-Knight completed his hat-trick.
The home side then sealed their emphatic win with 13 minutes remaining as Louis Bloom sent Holbeach to a humbling away loss.
