Pinchbeck United beat Whitton United in the Thurlow Nunn League
Pinchbeck United boss Lewis Thorogood was delighted with the response from his side as they made a winning return after a lengthy break from Thurlow Nunn League action on Saturday.
The Knights were 2-0 home winners over Whitton United in the Division One North match at the Sir Halley Stewart ground.
It was their first league outing since December 28 due to a couple of postponements being followed by free weekends in their programme.
Thorogood said: "It was a job well done after a good performance.
"We were nice and solid and everyone did what they were asked to do.
"After 30-odd days of not playing a league game, it was a great response.
"It was a good start back after our mini break."
Pinchbeck had produced an excellent performance in their last competitive clash a fortnight ago against higher level Fakenham Town in the League Cup.
They picked up where they left off on Saturday as two goals in the first half laid the foundations for victory.
Thorogood added: "We backed up the performance levels of the Fakenham game which is what I wanted from them.
"We are a nice, tight squad at the moment and that is probably helping with a bit of continuity in performances."
Harry Cranfield rose above the Whitton defenders to head the Knights in front from a corner.
They then doubled their lead when Luke Cullen converted from close range after a cross from Nathan Stevens following a break down the right.
Pinchbeck then created a host of chances to increase their lead with Josh Doran and JJ Ward both having good opportunities before half-time.
The theme continued after the break with Pinchbeck having the majority of the possession to keep control of the game.
They again carved out a number of opportunities with Cullen, Ward, Aston Taylor and Josh Panton either going close or being denied by an inspired display from the Whitton goalkeeper.
Taylor - who is part of the youth set-up at Grantham Town and has featured in the first team squad this season - was denied by a particularly impressive stop shortly after coming on as a substitute for his debut.
Thorogood commented: "Aston needs some senior experience but he's strong and powerful for his age.
"He's a young lad who is still learning but it's a good level and a good style of football for him to come into."
The victory moved Pinchbeck up into ninth spot ahead of Saturday's trip to Needham Market Reserves.
