Long Sutton Hockey Club round-up

An ongoing availability issue hit Long Sutton on Saturday as they went down to an eight-goal defeat at the University of East Anglia.

They had travelled to Norfolk for the East League Division 1N clash with a bare 11 players and were hit by a rampant university team.

They used their fast and skillful play to good effect and by half-time had slotted in six goals.

The visitors had a rousing half-time talk and for a long period they were able to contain the home team's attacks after the break.

With 10 minutes remaining, Sutton began to run out of steam and the university added two late goals.

It was a much better second half performance from the Greens and the return of Sam Gray and Josh Baker to this weekend's rearranged fixture against Cambridge City 2nds will be an added bonus.

Ed White was among the goalscorers as Long Sutton's second team secured a 2-1 home win over Cambridge Nomads 2nds in Division 3NW.

The ladies were 1-0 away winners at St Ives 2nds while the second team lost by the same margin at St Neots 3rds.
