Holbeach United Social Club Old Boys take on Tigers Veterans in match to remember Jonny Britton
Past and present players joined forces on Saturday for an annual memorial match to remember a former team-mate.
A team from Holbeach United Social Club Old Boys took on the Tigers Veterans in a match at Carter's Park.
It was played in memory of Jonny Britton who passed away in 2012 at the age of 35 due to spinal cancer, leaving behind a wife and young daughter, after playing for Holbeach Social Club teams for more than 12 years.
The match made a welcome return after an enforced two-year break due to the coronavirus pandemic and organisers are hoping to have raised around £2,200 for the St Barnabas Hospice and Heart Uk (The Cholestrol Charity).
More than 100 people turned out to support the event which saw the Tigers Legends run out 3-2 winners against the Old Boys.
Steve Barnes, Baz Nyang and Matt Holland were on target for the Holbeach team - which included current first team boss Danny Clifton - with Dave Wilson netting an outstanding brace for the Social Club side.
The event was backed by major sponsorship from Bryan Thompson Windows, Dervensure Insurance Brokers, MJS Projects (March) Ltd, Dyson Farming Ltd, Naturally Best Marketing Ltd and Central Fish Bar.
A number of families and individuals also made significant donations with everybody's support being appreciated by Jane, Ava and the Britton family.
Organisers would also like to thank those who helped on the day and Holbeach United Football Club/the Tigers Bar for providing their facilities.
