Success for Spalding drivers in the F1 Stock Cars and the 2L Stock Cars at King’s Lynn
South Lincolnshire drivers had a brilliant weekend in both the F1 Stock Cars and the 2L Stock Cars at King’s Lynn.
Both formulas had big races being contested with the F1 Stock Cars racing the second World Championship semi-final and the 2L Stock Cars their European Championship.
Spalding's Finn Sargent was in the world semi-final and started the big race on the outside of the sixth row.
With the top 10 qualifying for the world final, Finn was going to have to be making good progress and he drove one of the best races he has ever done at King's Lynn to make electric progress through the grid.
A good start saw him break into the top 10 early and by the third lap he was up to seventh spot.
He continued to move forward and with four laps to go he was up to second place which is where he finished the race.
This means he will now start on the second row of next month's world final which takes place at Skegness – a track he goes well at – and he will have his best ever chance of winning the event.
Defending world champion Tom Harris took the chequered flag with Danny Wainman finishing in third.
Wes Starmer had an incredible weekend in the 2L Stock Cars.
He came close to winning his first roof grade title in the saloons with a fantastic second place finish in the European Championship.
Wes was catching winner Timmy Barnes during the last few laps but the big gap which Timmy had built up was too much to break down.
Even better things came from Wes later in the night when he won the Steve Newman Memorial.
Steve was a top Spalding stock car driver who sadly paid the ultimate price for his love of the sport in a terrible accident at Mildenhall back in 2012.
Ever since then his memorial race has been a hotly contested affair and it is a trophy that every driver wants to honour Steve by getting their name on.
Wes drove a brilliant race by taking the lead from Austen Freestone with a great move with three laps to go.
Simon Venni came home in fifth place in the Steve Newman Memorial and also had a third place finish in the Dash for Cash
Racing returns to King’s Lynn this Saturday with a pre 80 meeting for the national bangers and pre 95 meeting for the junior bangers.
