Scott Floyd commits his future to Spalding United

Tulips boss Lewis Thorogood feels the versatility of Scott Floyd has made him a valuable asset to the Spalding United squad.

Floyd has become the second Spalding player to commit his future to the Northern Premier League South East Division club for next season.

The youngster has graduated from the Tulips Under 21s side to cement his place in the first team squad last season.

Thorogood enthused: “I’m really pleased that Scott has agreed to commit to the football club for another season.

“Scott is an ever-developing footballer and it’s crazy to believe he’s still only 20-years-old.

“He can play in a multitude of positions which is really important when it comes to your squad and I think he had a superb season.

“He gives 110 per cent and has got that little bit of attitude that you need. Sometimes, by his own admission, he does lose his head a little bit but I’ve got no problems with that because he’s passionate about the game and wants to do well.

“He’s got a really good engine on him and is someone I rate really highly.

“He’s got a great personality and I’ve got a lot of time for Scott because he’s a great lad.”

Floyd’s commitment to the Spalding cause has followed that of Elliott Burrell who also recently pledged his future to the Tulips.

Burrell was named young player of the year for last season which was ended early due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The premature finish has aided a couple of the Tulips players from last season in their recovery from long-term injuries.

Defensive stalwart Neal Spafford and promising youngster Archie Moyses are both now well on the road to recovery after having operations.

Thorogood commented: “This break has done us a bit of good to shake off those niggling and historic injuries and I think it will benefit all clubs when it comes to players who have had long, hard seasons.

“Both Spaff and Archie have had extensive surgery to get over troublesome injuries and this has given them a four or five month window to get everything sorted out.

“Spaff’s knee is getting better and stronger which is great news while Archie is working very hard on his fitness after having his anterior cruciate ligament reconstructed.”
