Stock car round-up

South LIncolnshire drivers were out in force at King's Lynn at the weekend.

The 2L Stock Cars, BriSCA F2 Stock Cars, 2L Bangers and 1600cc Banger East Anglian teams were all in action at the Norfolk Arena.

Long Sutton's Simon Venni was in great form as he took the chequered flag in the opening heat of the night.

Simon was in command of the race and took the lead on the seventh lap and never looked back.

Brother Rowan looked like he was going to repeat the feat in the second heat when he showed good speed during the second half of the race but he ran out of time to catch Dereham’s Harry Barnes and had to settle for second spot.

Rob Heanes also did well in this race, eventually finishing in ninth spot.

The final was an all action affair which was won by Tommy Barnes with Simon Venni being the best local finisher in fourth place.

There was a big turn-out of F2 Stock Cars with Charley Tomblin, Daniel Vaughan, Gavin Mason, Steve Wycherley, brothers Pat and Jack Issitt and father and son Barry and Jason Clow all in action.

Steve had the best result of the night with a runner-up finish in the opening heat which also doubled up as the White and Yellow Championship final and was won by Bury St Edmunds' Toby Partridge.

Steve ran out of luck later in the evening though when he ended up rolling his car in the Grand National.

Pat Issitt also qualified for the final through the opening race with a sixth place finish.

They were joined in the final by Daniel Vaughan who had the best local finish in the consolation with a fourth place finish.

Darlington's John Broatch won the race and it also saw Barry and Jason Clow and Jack Issitt make it through to the meeting final.

Jason Clow drove brilliantly in the final to come home in seventh place and also win the yellow top award with Ely's Sid Madgwick taking the victory.

Daniel Vaughan produced a fantastic drive in the 42 car Grand National to come home in third place with Dutch superstar Ricardo Schmidt taking the win. Pat Issitt followed Dan over the line in fourth.

Kavan Barton was part of the Team Blue and Black in the 1600cc Banger East Anglian teams race and a good performance helped them to come second in both the race and entertainer points.

Racing returns to King's Lynn on Bank Holiday Monday (August 26) for one of the biggest events of the season – the annual Big Van banger meeting.

This meeting is helping to support the 'Little Miracles' Charity which exists to support families that have children with additional needs, disabilities and life-limiting conditions and there will be various fundraising initiatives at this meeting.

Kavan Barton will be back in action where he will also be joined by Dan Clarke and Ross Coleman.

Racing also comes from the 1300 Stock Cars who will be contesting their version of the Steve Newman Memorial with the entry including Caine Parnell, Joe Bamford and Reece Crane and the Reliant Robins who will be racing in their World of Shale.
